Akron Public Schools Board of Education has voted to activate high school soccer, football, cheerleading, marching band and non-contact, fall sports (cross country, volleyball, golf, swimming and tennis).
The vote comes less than a week after two board members indicated a desire to change their votes from the August 24 meeting where both contact and non-contact sports were rejected for fall activity.
Tonight, board members were presented with new resolutions; all were passed. Following tonight’s vote, practice and performance will resume in accordance with public health guidelines for high school marching bands. Games will only feature the band of the home team. Practice and play will resume for all other fall sports, again, with strict adherence to guidance from the Summit County Department of Public Health.
The board voted in special session 4-3, in favor, on all three resolutions.
