Here is a great opportunity for all of our third graders!

On October 7
, the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition will host the Cargill/PNC Fishing Derby along the Ohio & Erie Canal at Wilbeth Road.

The Cargill/PNC Bluegill Fishing Derby is an educational “hands-on” event for Akron Public School age children that teaches them a new hobby and the importance of environmental stewardship.

The fishing derby is entirely free and we also provide refreshments and interpretive programming.

Some of the benefits of the Cargill and PNC Bluegill Fishing Derby include:

  • Introduces a recreational and educational activity to inner-city children that may develop as a lifelong experience.
  • Promotes resource conservation and cultivates new stewards for the conservation of the natural, historical and recreational resources along the Ohio & Erie Canalway.
  • Provides a quality family event and an opportunity to children to spend an educational experience along the Ohio & Erie Canalway and Towpath Trail.
  • Provides inner-city school age children with an opportunity to learn about the history of the Ohio & Erie Canal.
